Türkiye-US Relations During The Obama And Trump Presidency

18 € 26 €

The origins of the relations between Türkiye and the United States of America date back to the early 19th century. However, the relations between the two states reached the point of being in an alliance in the post-1945 period. Relations between Türkiye and the United States, which have been allies since the beginning of the Cold War, have followed an up und down course in the historical process. Crises such as the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, the Johnson Letter Crisis in 1964, the Poppy Crisis from 1968 onwards, and the Arms Embargo imposed on Türkiye by the United States after Türkiye's Cyprus Peace Operations in 1974, and Türkiye's suspension of the use of the Incirlik Base in Adana in response, have caused strained relations. Although Türkiye tried to pursue alternative foreign policies during periods of strained relations, none of them could be a substitute for the US. Even after the end of the Cold War, there have been problems in relations from time to time. However, after Barack H. Obama became the president, which is considered as the starting point of this study, the two states started to experience problems in various different topics and many of them have not yet been resolved.
