Dervish Zaim, who is seen as one of writer directors of Turkish cinema, stands in a distinctive position among his
contemporaries in terms of his multifaceted relationship with cinema. The stories that Zaim tells in each of his films by
referring to deep-rooted tradition and ancient texts, when brought together, reveal another story with a wider and
higher narrative. The outstanding feature of Zaim's films is that they look like sequences of the main film when viewed
from a holistic perspective. It is quite difficult to try to define such a director with such a strong narrative in Turkish cinema
in this compendium book. In Understanding Dervish Zaim's Cinema: Narrative, Time, Space, 8 researchers from
different universities and disciplines have tried to explain Dervish Zaim's cinema. Thus, the book is crucial for providing a
